Phillip Naviasky was an oil painter of still life, landscapes and portraits. He was born in Leeds to Polish-Jewish immigrant parents and studied at the Leeds School of Art and the Royal College of Art, where he was the youngest ever student to be accepted. Besides many parts of Yorkshire he also painted in Holland, France and Spain. He is well known as a portrait painter in Yorkshire and later taught at the Leeds College of Art. Naviasky exhibited at the Royal Academy, the Royal Society of Portrait Painters, the Royal Scottish Academy in Glasgow and in many exhibitions in Yorkshire including the notable 1925 Yorkshire Art Exhibition.
